Garrett Mason is a lifelong Mainer, experienced public leader, and award-winning crisis management expert who believes Maine needs decisive, competent leadership at a moment of real urgency.
Born in Lewiston and raised in Lisbon Falls, Garrett comes from deep Maine roots that stretch back more than 200 years on both sides of his family. Garrett is a 2006 graduate of Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola, Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Management and Marketing. After college, he returned home to Maine and began his professional career in the state’s sports administration field, serving in leadership roles with the Portland Sea Dogs—the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox—and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Lewiston MAINEiacs. Working in fast-paced, results-driven organizations gave Garrett firsthand experience managing budgets, people, public expectations, and institutional pressure—experience that ultimately led him to public service.
In 2010, at just 25 years old, Garrett ran for the Maine State Senate and defeated an 18-year incumbent by 11% of the vote. He served eight years representing Androscoggin and Kennebec Counties and was twice elected by his Republican colleagues to serve as Senate Majority Leader, becoming the youngest Majority Leader in Maine history at age 29.
After leaving the Legislature, Garrett built and grew successful businesses in public affairs, crisis management, and real estate. He has advised organizations across Maine and New England during high-stakes moments where government policy, business realities, and public perception collide. This work sharpened a perspective few leaders possess—an understanding of how laws passed in Augusta actually affect payrolls, housing costs, energy bills, public safety, and the ability of employers and families to plan for the future.
Garrett has lived both sides of the table. He has written policy, negotiated budgets, and led legislative coalitions—and he has also signed the front of paychecks, managed risk, navigated regulation, and made investment decisions in the real world. That combination allows him to bridge the divide between politics and practicality, ensuring that government works for the people who actually live under its decisions.
Maine is facing serious challenges: rising costs, public safety concerns, workforce shortages, housing constraints, and a growing sense that government is disconnected from everyday life. Garrett believes these problems are not abstract—they are solvable with leadership that understands systems, incentives, and consequences.
Maine doesn’t need a political hobbyist. Maine needs a leader who understands government, knows how to act on day one, and has the experience to execute. Garrett Mason brings the right skills for this moment in Maine’s history: proven leadership, policy expertise, business discipline, and crisis-tested judgment.
He is not running to add a title to his résumé. He is running to restore confidence in Maine’s future and ensure that Maine remains a place where families can live safely, affordably, and with opportunity.
Garrett lives in Lisbon Falls with his wife Rebekah and their daughter.
